How not to do an Irish accent...

...or does it just make you say "huh"?

An interview by a fake Irish leprechaun?

My my my, this scares the bejesus out of me (written in a fake Irish accent of course).

That was a really bad spam, Coldplay.

Tom, it sorta puts the whole "Ed Experience" into perspective. A newagey California guy adopts a really bad Irish accent and converses with a really bald newagey California guy who has massive control issues on Usenet.

I'm not even convinced it's two people.

Tis a wee bit contrived, but you have to love the Irish no matter what! At least I do!

Wow!
It sounds like that awful accent was because he had something vital clamped in a vice...

I am Irish and do not claim to do a great Irish accent, but I am better than that...I learned from a full Irish grandmother who still spoke with a borough like she had just come from the Island.

99.99% of Irish people do not speak in that High and octave...That was also one person doing both voices, as they never both spoke at once, or tried to speak over each other.

Devany - "a wee bit contrived"? Sounds like typical British understatement to me even if you're not British!

Terry - I see so many Americans claim they're Irish and I'm never convinced by their claims. Sure, they may have Irish ancestry but I don't think it makes them Irish!

In my own case, my father was born and grew up in Belfast and only moved to England to sign up during WW II. My mother is Austrian and I was born in England. I've never been quite sure what that makes me although I'm an utter cricket fanatic so I guess I'm English...

(That's cricket as in the sport!)

I would rephrase that, I am of Irish descent...I have visited Ireland, met my Irish family there, but I was born & raised in California.

I have watched some cricket matches late at night when I can not sleep...after I move to the BI, I would like you to teach me about cricket...it does look interesting. I know just enough to be dangerous.

If you can explain some of the finer points of baseball then I'm sure I'll be happy to explain cricket to you including the LBW law...

I've had many people explain what a squeeze play yet I still don't quite understand.

Tom,
I would be more than happy to explain baseball...I am a lifelong baseball fan.

Best explanation of the squeeze play: (not sure how my diamond appears)
2nd

3rd 1st

Home

Usually the squeeze play is not used unless you are late in a game and either you trail by one or the score is tied.,

You have a base runner on 3rd base, there will usually be 0 to 1 outs in the inning, and the batter is not one of your power hitters (hits home runs), the batter will bunt up the first base line, but the runner takes off from third just as the pitcher releases the pitch to the batter, hopefully the runner arrives just after the batter has bunted the ball, and squeezes in the run. The chances that the batter gets on base from the bunt are slim, so that is why you only do this with 0 outs or 1 out.

Does that help?
