Black mood

The light-sucking black lava rocks in this photo sum up my mood right now. The treat lady was here for the last month and we had a wonderful time albeit with a few emergencies - I now know where the Maui emergency room is and got to know the staff quite well! It's been a depressing day though and it's back to an empty house this evening. Even the cats aren't quite themselves but Eddie did get a few treats tonight...

Lava rock meets ocean

Waialea Beach, better known as Beach 69, is my favourite place on the island. It's a white sand beach with wonderful snorkeling. It also has some rocks pictured here in a few photos I took last week after sunset. Using the dark can make for some interesting pictures. The long exposure necessary to get enough light blurs out the water but also exposes the rocks below the water line. It also makes it very difficult to find your way off the beach when you forget your flashlight.

I can't believe how quickly my island vacation has gone. Oh well, back to work, and I'll post a few more photos in the next few days...

Hawaiian rock pool

I'm not sure exactly what this is. It's clearly made by human hands and it might be a miniature fish pond or an artificial rock pool. It wasn't there last time I visited this spot in Puako on the leeward side of the Big Island of Hawai`i. I used to visit this place a lot as it's a great place for turtle watching but haven't had the time in the last couple of years.

Feel free to click on the pictures to see larger versions.

Big Island Harvest Moon

I was busy taking some sunset shots on the Kona side of the Big Island and remembered that tonight was the so-called Harvest Moon. I turned around as soon as the sun had set and sure enough there was a beautiful full moon.

Baby harbour

This has to be the smallest protected harbour I've ever seen. You might fit a canoe through the entrance but not much else. It's a good place for kids to swim though. This is another shot from the beach park just south of Lahaina, Maui.

Rocky waters

It's not white sandy beaches everywhere! Lahaina shoreline, Maui.

Wish you were here...

Apologies for being so quiet recently, but I'm on holiday. One nice thing about living in Hawai`i is that you don't have to go very far for a tropical vacation.
