Moonlight Sonata

Isn't it strange how music invokes memories? Often they're memories from long ago, but occasionally very recent ones. Listening to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata this evening reminded me of reading Peter's recent blog entry about Beethoven, Dudley Moore and Victor Borge. Thanks to that I managed to find and reminisce about Victor Borge's legacy.

He was a most talented pianist and comedian. He passed away a few years ago now and I remember being quite upset when I heard the news. My father was a huge fan of Borge and whenever he appeared on the TV we'd watch together - even if it was the old Heineken adverts!

He also performed a memorable Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata...

I agree with this sentiment; everything that has to do with our senses, such as scent or a sound (music) can evoke the past like nothing else.
Victor Borge was originally Danish and very loved in Denmark where I live.

He was loved in the UK as well and I'm sure all over Europe. He even did OK in the USA!

He was one of the greatest talents the rest of us had the fortune to see and hear.

Oh, Victor Borge was one of my dad's favorites and I can remember, just like you, sitting on the couch with him, watching and laughing! The anniversary of my dad's death is next week and I've been so sad about it... thanks for reminding me of something so happy!!

And yes, to answer your question, I do read Bill Bryson... he's one of my favorite authors. His 'Walk in the Woods' and 'Notes from a Small Island' are two of my favorite books. The comparison you made between my writing and his made me so giddy, I nearly feel off the sofa! OK, not really, but it definitely made me smile!!! That's twice, and I've only been up 30 minutes! Thank you!! (And no, I don't normally use so many exclamation points! Or 'excitement points', as Ryan used to call them ;)

Diane - you have a talent when it comes to writing. You should definitely think about making a little money from it!

Thank you :). I do make my living with words, though it's not terribly creative work. I keep on with the fun stuff, though, hoping someone will pay me one day ;)
